Matakana, Auckland
This was an evolutionary project in Matakana that manifested as a museum, function centre, bar and restaurant. The collector has spent significant time and energy collecting and collating work both for indoor and outdoor exhibition. Award winning wine is grown on the site and is available for purchase and there is an acclaimed fine dining restaurant. Denizen described Sculptureum as "a world class sculpture garden". Spatially a 68 meter long veranda roof connects a function centre, museum, commercial kitchen and ablution block. The veranda roof and deck areas between these buildings also provide a semi-outdoor bar and atrium. Materials were selected to be a refined rustic with reference to traditional New Zealand farm buildings emphasising texture and constructivist detailing. The bar was designed to express the grain and texture of the timber panelling. Photography by Libby Robinson.
